Welcome to the new edition of the Comesto Magazine for the on-trade. We are publishing at a time when we are still suffering the enforced closure of the whole hospitality industry, and we had to think seriously about whether we should publish at all when individuals and businesses in the industry are suffering the effects of government-imposed restrictions.

But this industry is resilient and the people who work in the on-trade are used to hard work and setbacks. We have seen so many inspiring stories on our social channels, from front-of-house workers taking up temp roles picking fruit and vegetables, restaurateurs and landlords deep cleaning kitchens and completing overdue maintenance jobs and chefs and managers making use of the time to improve their offer when their business finally opens for trade. Not to mention the many generous initiatives to help feed homeless people and others who need help.

We are also tapping into that positivity. Our magazine and our service are here to work with the on-trade and the inspiring producers, buyers and workers who make F&B the great industry that it is. Let’s continue the work, plan for the future and welcome back the customers with an even better offer.

In this edition, we introduce our new commercial director Paul Walker, who draws on his many years’ experience in F&B wholesale to explore why the industry post Covid-19 shutdown can’t just resume with ‘situation normal’ mode when the market requires so much more. We also hear about chef Sophie Hyam; her career so far and marketing herself as a brand.

There are also inspiring ideas for some great new products that you can pick up from Comesto, including Mr Fitzpatrick’s soft drinks, who have a new canned range and a bar-top spritzer unit and exciting new Italian snacks from Fox, which has a distinctive range of bagged snack products. Both brands are working hard to continue their pre-COVID-19 sales success.

Talking about sales, we have exciting news!  With solid investment and support from Nova Investment Group, we are making the leap to become a full trading platform: an exciting new kind of wholesale supplier. 

That means we will be the UK’s FIRST EVER  managed marketplace for quality food and drink – which in non-technical terms means we are becoming a platform-based wholesale company selling the quality brands trade buyers are demanding. We are aiming directly at the wholesale industry and we want to give buyers a better deal, more choice and a faster, more connected buying service. 

The changes start now. For the first time, you can buy some of the products featured here directly through this magazine. The first nine brands are set up in our trial shop featured here, and we will be rolling out more key brands for you to try before our full launch when the ‘new normal’ arrives.
