Welcome to our July edition of the Comesto Magazine

by | Jul 1, 2021

We all hoped that by now the hospitality industry would be fully open and heading towards a busy and profitable Summer season.

But after June 21st was put off until July 19th and the new normal for venues may still include masks, tracker apps and potentially COVID passports it’s not yet business as usual. However, this is a resilient and optimistic industry and there are positive signs from which we can all take heart.

We kick off this edition with news about our service, it’s grown considerably since the start of the year. We call it ‘Smart Wholesale’ it’s moving the whole concept of wholesale forward many paces by using a collaborative model and we believe the benefits for both producers and buyers will be immense. We know many trade buyers are suffering a reduced delivery service and a decreased range of products on offer from their wholesalers, especially of premium items, well we are here to plug that gap. Please contact us if you need to know more.

At Comesto we are working with some great startup venues. Hug a Mug is a favourite, a new local coffee shop based in Slough and The Moka Pot in Bournemouth serving the most delicious Sicilian cakes and pastries (and our Fox Italian snacks) and for the really stylish we love Queens of Mayfair – presenting the very on-trend coffee shop transforming to a cocktail bar for the evening vibe. We have a chat in this edition with Moka Pot founder Nathan Muir finding out how they fared through the lockdown

We also have some great new brands joining us and in this edition, we highlight two of those. Root Kitchen is a top-quality frozen vegan ready meals supplier, they are working with us to develop their reach nationwide into quality bars and restaurants and premium sports clubs. And Bottle and Bar Shop based in Catford is now working with us to sell and distribute their range of absolutely top-quality bottled cocktail mixes.

We recently commissioned some research around hospitality trade buyer’s changing needs, how tech has started to become an essential part of running and stocking a business and their predictions for the future. Read the incisive results here

Finally, it looks like we may (fingers crossed) have some real live trade shows to go to this Autumn. Networking is a vital part of this industry and these events have been missed. Thanks to the organisers who are putting their time and effort into getting the shows created and we look forward to getting out there and finally meeting friends old and new face to face.
